Hardcover. 0ctavo ca. 6" x 9" half bound in brown clith with marbled paper covered boards, light to moderate wear and soiling, binding sound, but backstrip sunned and dull, faint evidence of spine labels that are now gone, old x- library copy with paper labels on back cover and front pastedown inside, ink stamp on title page, contents pp. vii, [4], xii, 479, [3], followed by folding map at rear. Map in very good condition and coloed in outline. Pages are age toned, and there is foxing - light on mant pages to moderate on many and heavy on some. Overall, good binding, some library markings, contents not quite good, and a scarce book. Howes S58. His tour was mainly in the south and as far west as St. Louis. Text in Deutsch.
