New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1939. First Edition. Hardcover. octavo, ca. 6" x 9.5" , pp. xi, 342, bound in original red cloth covered boards that are near fine condition. Contents age toned, but otherwise near fine. Dust jacket is present and not quite good condition with light soiling, darkened backstrip, chips missing short tears, price not clipped. Ink name of earlier owner on front endpaper and some underlining noted on one page about a banquet at Music Hall. Overall, a very good copy in not quite good dustjacket. According to her biography on line, Clara was a remarkable women from a wealthy and political family from Cincinnati who earned a Doctorate in France in 1921 and started the American Library in France and was in France in 1939 when war began and when this book was published- there os a slip of paper in the book noting that there are some errors due to the fact that communication with France was difficult.
