Hardcover. here is the first edition of volume 1 of this renowned work. it is bound in original maroon cloth covered boards with moderate wear, joints are a bit weak but holding. Contents fine except for age toning of paper. Inscribed on the front free endpaper by P. Lee. Philips to a friend. Volumes 1-4 were published 1909-1920 by the Library of Congress with Philips the author. Volumes 5 - 9 were published in Washington by the Library of Congress in 1958, 1963, 1973, with Le Gear as author. These volumes form the single most important reference work on atlases - containing descriptions of more than 18,000 atlases This is ONLY vol. 1. note: due weight of the volumes overseas shipping will be more expensive.
