Map of the Physical Divisions of Germany Exhibiting the Post Roads, Canals...

London: Arrowsmith, 1812. Early Edition. Hardcover. Very large linen backed map of Germany, nominally divided into 4 sections - each folded, but some parts are separated along the linen boundaries. Each small rectangle measures ca. 10 " x 12.5" or 25cm x 31cm for total width ca. 80" and height 81"- this is only approximate and estimated from the size of the individual rectangles. The bottom or southernmost sections are ca. half the height of the other rectangles and they do not extend the full width of the other rectangles. The is much color in the mountainous areas and many rivers- presumably in keeping with the title of the map- "Physical Divisions of Germany". The coloring appear to be early if not original, but faded and, perhaps spred over time. No library markings or earlier owner names observed, but there are a number of notes or markings which appear to be ink and pencil, off of the main map areas. The Library of Congress lists a map very much like this one with publication date of 1812 and folded size very much like this one. There is overall soiling of the map. Overall a fair to good copy with the main faults being the soiling and separation of the parts, but it appears to be complete. There are two stiff card covers in poor condition, which are the remnants of an old slipcase. Due to the size and weight, overseas shipping may be more expensive than an average book. Good.
