London: J. Cooke, 1779. fifth. Paperback. folio atlas, ca. 9.5" x 13.5" , pp. 548, [10 of index and subscribers], Presumably Vol 2 (only ) of 2. Pagination appears to match that of a 1777-78 copy. Rebound in new light brown quarter leather with marbled paper covered boards that are fine condition, inside paper is age toned and soiled, the first 30 pages in poor condition and have some water stains, remainder in fair to good condition- generally dark from age, foxed, etc. Has Large Ink letters on title page and bottom and foredge- almost certainly x- library. Maps generally good but the larger ones are misfolded. All of the maps a plates called for in the list for the binder, which is near the back of the book are present. The is a map of South America that id not in the list for this volume. Most of the plates are in good condition, but a few have closed tears and several are darker from age and exposure. An earlier owner placed many bits of plants at various places in the book- usually next to one of the plates- often, these bits harm the paper, but that does not seem to be the case with this book - the damage is generally small and not affecting the plate much. They are part of the history of the book and are, generally, left inside. Overall, Binding is fine, contents fair to good, but x- library copy.
