Hardcover. quarto, bound in old leather that is moderately heavily worn, attachment of boards is good- there is a repair at the inside of the front board- it was likely reattached. There is light to moderate foxing scattered throughout and varied age browning of the paper. There is a stain at the lower right corner of the pages near the back of the book- not affect text, but noticeable. Two folding maps by James Rennell are present and in very good condition. pp. xxvi, 194 Horneman was exploring at the behest of the Society for exploration of the interior of Africa, but, his Journal was published posthumously. The list of society members is at the back of the book. There are no bookplates or earlier owner names noted.
