Tokyo: Cabinet Imperial, 1893. First Edition. Hardcover. tall octavo, bound in original light blue paper covered boards with heavy wear and early owner ink name on cover. the name is Dr. Albert Leffingwell. Contents are very good, but much age darkened in a few cases. Text is in French and in Japanese. There are 4 folding maps. Overall, a good copy, perhaps not quite good. At the back is pasted a letter- in English- from the head of the Bureau to the person who's name is on the front cover. The letter is easy to read and runs over 2 pages. According the letter, Dr. Leffingwell visited Japan and wanted the use some of the statistics in a report he was writing about his journey. Dr. Leffingwell was a President of the American Humane Society and a critic of cruelty to animals especially when used for medical studies. His Son later became a novelist. Good. Item #5191
