Photograph Album of trip to Egypt, Middle East, India, Singapore, Hong Kong ca. 1933
n.p. unknown, 1933. First Edition. Hardcover. Old photo album ca. 11"x 14.75" - covers in heavy cardboard with black cloth covering, Front cover has color scene representing a scene in China or Japan- it may have been made in China for export market. One binding point has been reinforced with burgundy color string. Contents are 29 leaves of stiff black card containg photos on both sides. There are glassine sheets between all of the leaves- these have protected the photos from eachother and from the paper. There are more than 250 photographs of varying sizes from ca. 2.25" x 3.25" to ca. 3.25" x 5.5" with a few larger at ca. 6" x 8", locations of most are written in white ink and are generally legible. Places include Alexaandria, Cairo, Babylon, Delhi, Agra, Sinapore, Kumala Lumpur, Hong Kong and some of other places. Many toward the rear of the book show people- many of sports teams and some individuals- most are not identified- a few are identified as "self"- a man. Toward the back are several pictures of airplanes- and plane crashes- mainly bi-planes- one shows a plane dropping a torpedo. A number of the images were taken from the air- probably a small plane, but there is one image of a dirigible. Generally, undated. Some are dated 1930, '31, '32. Two of sports teams (probably Singapore) identify them as teams of 1933 and 1934. It is likely most of the people were from the U.K. and they seemed to be visiting ports and outposts of the Empire. They may have had a military or Diplomatic connection in order to see and photograph all that is shown. There are a images lacking- places exist for some that are not present- ca. 17 are missing- most from the back of the book where the majority of the images are of people. Note: due to size and weight, shipping outside the USA will cost more than an average book. Good. Item #5445
