Rumphius Memorial Volume (inscribed)

Rumphius Memorial Volume (inscribed)

Amsterdam: Greshoff's Rumphius Fonds, 1959. First Edition. Hardcover. octavo, bound in original dark green cloth covered boards with very little wear, there are a small number of ink notations made at a few places in the book. This copy probably belonged to de Wit as there is an elaborate inscription on the half title page expressing gratitude to de Wit for his work on providing much of the content of the book and for his editing. There are five signatures that are either illegible or barely legible. One of these appears to be one of the authors who may also have had other responsibilities. Also included are several pages of handwritten and typed notes as well as a copy of a review of the book. A couple of the letters appear to be between De Wit and Engel- one of the other authors. The review has several comments marked in ink with notes written in English and Dutch. The reviewer criticizes the lack of bredth in the number of contributors to the book and one of the notes says that the reviewer was asked to contribute but would not cooperate. A very interesting group of papers in a special copy of the book. Overall a near fine copy. Near fine. Item #8087
