Horticulture and Pomology Lithographs Salesman's Catalog Brookside Nurseries Johnson & Hanna No. 18
Rochester: M. Brunswick, 1890. early edition. Original wraps. octavo folding portfolio of 141 beautiful chromolithographed flowers, fruits, trees and related images. each image is 8.5" x 5.5" and they are connected together in pairs back to back and then 3 across connected by a pink flat linen rope. These are all folded together into a cloth binding with leather outher covers. The leather cover states "Brookside Nurseries, Johnson & Hanna, Palmyra, N. Y. No. 18." The images state "M. Brunswick & Co. Rochester, N. Y." along with descriptions and names of the item displayed. No date was observed on the plates but it is ca. 1890. Most of the plates have a pencil noted price, a couple have pencil marks with no clear purpose, 6 plates are presently adhered together and about 6 were, evidently, adhered together in the past as white areas are visible on one while the opposite one has added color that is incorrect. Other we have read about have fewer plates- it is reasonable to assume that different nurseries modified these sample books to show only the plants they handled or could easily get. General light soiling. Overall, Case and binding heavily worn, several plates somewhat damaged but most are quite beautifully preserved in this scarce salesmans sample, Contents very good, binding fair. Good. Item #8104
