This is an American coverlet- undated , but estimate1855,"Made by Phillip Schum Lancaster PA" is indicated in weaving. size is ca. 74" x 79" mostly red on green color . Patterns include horse, eagles and buildings. Overall condition is good. There is wear around the edges. (21) Philip Schum is a known coverlet weaver in Lancaster starting in the 1840's- 1850's. By 1856, it seems he had a substantial weaving business. The estimate for 1855 is based only on the idea that he might not have signed coverlets the same way later, but further research could prove this wrong. Scale of condition is "as new", "near fine", "very good", "good", "fair", "poor".
