Hardcover. small folio ca. 10" x 14", bound in mottled calf covered boards, raised bands on backstrip, red leather label and decoration on backstrip that are dull from age and exposure- a little damage at top of back strip, corners bumped, marbled end papers, pp. [32] , 443, [1] including 59 engraved plates illustrating writing through the ages, engraved title page and engraved vignette which is hand colored. A little paper missing from corners of a small number of pages, but not affecting text. An impressive illustration of all sorts of typeface of the day. Overall, a very good copy.
